Utah currently has protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation in housing and in the workplace, but there is no protection in Utah against this discrimination in places of public accommodation. That means that a restaurant, a store, or a doctor’s office can legally refuse to serve LGBT people because of their sexual orientation.

This discrimination goes against our American values of equality and justice, and It’s time for it to change. Utah must join the 19 other states that have passed laws to prevent this kind of discrimination. I pledge to personally sponsor legislation that will provide protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation in all places of public accommodation. The businesses in our communities should serve everyone, not just those that agree with their worldview.
